Design elements of Local area Network

Network topology is a geometric arrangement of links and nodes. A link is actually is a path for communication between two nodes. Node is an endpoint of a branch. A link which connects only two nodes is termed as point to point link. If it is more than two, then it is termed as multipoint link. In star network, all points are joined at a single point. Ring network provides a point to point link but arranged in circular configuration. Here access and allocation methods make use of a token, a bit pattern which is circulated around the ring. Bus networks are like multipoint lines. Here nodes share a single physical channel with the help of cable taps and connectors.
