Computer aided drawing

Computer engineers, civil engineers and mechanical engineers are very much interested in computer graphics since it reduces their workload while undergoing complex projects. Graphical Kernel System (GKS) is the first graphics package developed by International Standards Organization (ISO) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Then came PHIGS (Programmer’s Hierarchical Interactive Graphics Standard) package. Some other graphics packages are Silicon graphics GL package, OpenGL, Pixar RenderMan interface and PostScript interpreters. Computer aided design is a tool for engineers in the design of buildings, automobiles, aircraft, spacecraft, watercraft, textile industry etc. Multiwindow environment is a key feature of CAD software packages. For testing performance of a device or a system, real time animations are employed. These animations can be displayed on a video monitor. CAD also plays a good role in presentation preparation. Presentation graphics are used for bar charts, line graphs, surface graphs and pie charts. Computer graphics methods are also used for fine art and commercial art applications. Packages like LUMENA, PixelPaint, SuperPaint, Mathematica etc. are used for this. Nowadays computer graphics is widely used in the field of entertainment for making motion pictures, music videos and television shows. Computer graphics is also used in the field of education and training, visualization and in image processing.
